Luxury Senior Residences New York NY

For more than fifty years, four generations of Scharfs have provided residences for seniors that offer supportive living in a warm, congenial and home-like environment. The first Scharf family senior residence was founded in 1950 on the premise that seniors can continue to enjoy their lives even as it becomes difficult to live in their own homes, yet are not in need of the skilled care of a nursing home. We like to think of our residences as a ‘new home’ where seniors can enjoy all the freedom of an independent lifestyle, with none of the worries that accompany household management. Propelled by a deep-rooted tradition of respect for the elderly, the Scharf family is committed to providing a safe and secure environment that fosters dignity for each and every resident.

As a family-owned and operated organization for more than fifty years, The Esplanade has always championed respect for the elderly and delivery of the quality care that they have rightfully earned.

We’re dedicated to creating a warm, comfortable, and caring atmosphere that provides each and every resident with the best quality of life.

We would value your decision to entrust the care of your loved one to us. At The Esplanade, our residents are surrounded by new friends and embraced by a caring and attentive staff, specially-trained to be responsive to the needs of older adults.

You’ll soon discover that aging does not preclude a lifestyle that promotes wellness, vitality and enjoyment of life to its fullest.

The Esplanade in Manhattan is located in one of New York City’s most desirable neighborhoods. West End Avenue, with its tree-lined sidewalks flanked by the finest examples of pre-war architecture in the city, is a most beautiful backdrop to The Esplanade Manhattan. Just one block west is lovely Riverside Park with its splendid views of the Hudson, walking paths and year-round enjoyment of the ever-changing scenery. Then one block east is bustling Broadway with its potpourri of specialty shops, boutiques and bookstores. Just a short stroll downtown is Lincoln Center, with its many cultural offerings. Excitement or tranquility are just steps away from The Esplanade Manhattan.

  • When my husband died I moved into the Esplanade Manhattan Senior Living because I have children in this area. For New York City, it's a large one-bedroom apartment. I wished it had more kitchen space, but the rooms are fairly large. I'm paying for three meals day; it's included in the rent. Food in institutions like this tends to be repetitive and sometimes it's better than others. The staff here is very nice and I find them helpful.
  • The Esplanade Manhattan is beautiful. It has a big dining room and a reception area. The staff is caring and they take the residents to the park. Sometimes they play music, too.
